San Diego and the Inside of Tieton

San Diego has been delightful, especially with my sister Margaret’s visit! Kayaking around the protected Shelter Island basin has just been a joy. We continue enjoying doing our errands on our bikes and are almost completely provisioned for the next leg of our journey. Sunday we moved to the Silver Gate Yacht Club and have been appreciating the friendly members, facilities and hot tub.

Tieton’s rigging gets re-installed tomorrow! The other good news is that Starlink sent a replacement unit that works!!! The bad news is that for some reason, the brand new generator has been sucking salt water into the engine oil. We are working with the manufacturer, NexGen, to figure out a fix/replacement. Thus, our departure for Mexico is delayed until ??? They say cruising is waiting for parts in exotic locations. While we don’t consider San Diego exotic, we are grateful to be resolving these challenges here.

And now information about the inside of Tieton. Tieton is a 43’ Wauquiez Pilothouse built in France. She has 230V (European voltage panel) and 110V power (when plugged in at the dock), plus an inverter to convert the 12v batteries to the 230v panel. The V-berth that sleeps two is in the bow. Next is the “office”/(Herman’s workroom) and a head. Moving back are the galley (kitchen), salon (dining room) and navigation station. Finally in aft (back) is a cabin with a queen size bed, plus another head that includes a stand up shower. Every cubbyhole has storage and absolutely no space is wasted.

Tieton came with a complete inventory that was thoroughly listed by the first owner. We have supplemented the original inventory with replacements for the duplicate parts that were used or have aged beyond their useful life. We are continually updating the inventory as we use, buy, or shift materials amongst locations.

When Tieton is underway, everything we don’t want to end up on the floor is stowed, plus the cabinets are locked. The sewing machine is currently on the table because I’m completing the solar panel installation on the bimini. Once I redid the upholstery and sewed the canvas, Herman decided we could bring the machine and accompanying electrical transformer.

And finally, before we sign off for this week… Another exciting thing happened. The pictures from Kader and Dylan’s September 2nd wedding came, so we get to share a couple with you.

Love this post! I have been on many motor boats and have never been on a sailboat. Hope you are on your way to Mexico soon! I love your attitude about enjoying the ride. Safe travels!

  5. I was surprized you had to do the re-rigging on the mast. did you replace the original rigging?

    1. Thanks for following us Russ! The rigging was 13 years old, which given all the rain in the Pacific Northwest was in pretty good shape. Unfortunately, the insurance companies don’t understand that and wouldn’t insure the rigging. We decided not to risk having a problem so had the rigging replaced.
